Eligibility for the EBEC Exam
There are two tracks to sit the EBEC-FPRS examination.
01.
Fellowship Track
Open to surgeons who have completed a recognised, structured fellowship in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery including EAFPS-recognised fellowships, IFFPSS-affiliated fellowships, or other programmes formally recognised by EBEC-FPRS.
Required documents: fellowship certificate, dates of training, curriculum description signed by the Fellowship Director, proof of medical licensure and specialist registration.
Note: EAFPS fellows are required to sit the EBEC-FPRS exam as part of their fellowship certification process.
02.
Regular Track
Open to experienced surgeons without a recognised fellowship but with substantial clinical activity in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery.
Candidates must hold a specialist qualification in otorhinolaryngology–head and neck surgery, plastic surgery, or maxillofacial surgery, and submit a log of 100 consecutive facial plastic and reconstructive surgery cases personally performed within the last 2 years, following the official EBEC-FPRS Case Report Format.
General requirements
both tracks
All candidates must submit documents in English, agree to EBEC-FPRS confidentiality and integrity policies, complete the mandatory mock test one week before the written exam using the same device they will use on exam day, and declare the accuracy of all submitted information.
Written & Oral exam
The examination
Written exam
Day 1
Two parts, each consisting of 100 multiple-choice questions with a 2-hour time limit.
The passing standard is determined by the Modified Angoff Method, set by a panel of EBEC-FPRS experts to represent the performance of a minimally competent candidate.
No external applications may remain open during the exam any detected activity results in immediate disqualification.
Oral exam
Day 2
12 clinical scenarios divided into 3 modules of 4 scenarios each:
- Module 1 – Rhinoplasty and nasal surgery
- Module 2 – Ageing face and oculoplastics
- Module 3 – Reconstructive surgery, trauma, and varia
Each scenario runs for 6 minutes with 5–7 structured questions. Before each module, candidates have 20 minutes in an isolated room to review the 4 cases.
All three modules must be passed failing one means failing the oral exam in full. Failing either the written or oral exam requires repeating the entire examination in a future cycle.
EBEC-FPRS Equivalence Certification
Available exclusively to surgeons who were Board Certified by the EBCFPRS before 2024. This equivalence ensures full recognition and continuity of your certification under the new EBEC-FPRS framework. A 150 € fee applies, payable via the EAFPS Shop.
