A Guide to The American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Examination

As daunting a prospect as it seems having to sit for an examination in a country other than your own and, for many Europeans, not in their first language, the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ABFPRS) Examination held in Washington DC, I commend it to all Facial Plastic Surgeons in Europe as we strive towards formal certification in our specialty. Whilst being challenging, it is fair, well constructed and impeccably run. It represents the only highly validated Facial Plastics examination in the world and the European Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery have now adopted it as a required part of the Certification process. The Board examination is a requirement for all seeking certification in North America. All examiners have previously taken the examination themselves. It is important to emphasize that European candidates will only be eligible for certification by the EAFPS and not the ABFPRS.
